Como parte del programa de estudios, la Escuela de Graduados de Estudios Militares del Ejército de República Dominicana (EGEMERD), de la Facultad de Ciencias Militares del Instituto Superior para la Defensa (INSUDE), Impartió el Diplomado de Medio Ambiente, Manejo de Residuos Sólidos y Protección Ambiental a los estudiantes de la Especialidad y el Curso en Comando y Estado Mayor, así como de Operaciones Militares para Oficiales Auxiliares.
El mismo, fue desarrollado por el Cnel. Julio César Rodríguez Burgos, ERD, (DEM), el cual es un especialista en los temas medioambientales.
Los Oficiales, recibieron conocimientos en materia de Medio Ambiente, Recursos Naturales y Gestión de Riesgos, principio ecológico, biodiversidad, normativa de vida silvestre, comercio de especies, cambio climático y calentamiento global, áreas protegidas en la RD, cuencas hidrográficas como unidades de planificación, causas e impacto de los incendios forestales, recursos forestales y manejo de bosques en RD y otros temas que contribuyen a elevar los niveles de profesionalidad y desempeño en sus labores militares.
Al finalizar el diplomado, los estudiantes, realizaron una visita a los Humedales del Ozama, donde plantaron árboles de las especies nativas y endémicas, recibieron conferencias acompañados por el instructor y las autoridades de la EGEMERD, con el objetivo de elevar los niveles de profesionalidad y desempeño en sus labores militares.
De su lado el Cnel. Jorge Luis Vásquez Suárez, ERD, (DEM), Director General, aseguró que este Diplomado se inscribe dentro de las acciones que realiza el Comandante General del Ejército, el Mayor General Carlos A. Fernández Onofre en beneficio del medio ambiente y la protección de los recursos naturales y de la formación y capacitación de sus miembros.
